All or Nothing Mentality is Not Your Friend
All or nothing mentality is a bully. It uses fear and intimidation to spark change within you. And while fear can be an effective motivator temporarily, that specific kind of motivation fades out somewhat quickly. And then there you are, still scared but not motivated anymore. What a terrible way to feel.

You Don’t Have to Send It, Bro
Look, the outdoors isn’t just for shredders and killers and smashers. The outdoors is also for amblers and relaxers and curious new explorers.
Let’s Be Better
If you’re anything like me, recent events in this country around human rights have made you question your beliefs and assumptions about freedom more than ever before.
I want to be a better human. Here are some resources I’ve found helpful.
Hiker Wisdom for Hard Times
If you’ve spent any time with a long-distance hiker, you’ve probably heard these phrases before, but if not, allow me to introduce you to a philosophy that is very effective at providing a sense of comfort and emotional freedom in times of stress and uncertainty.
The Decision is Yours
If you want to love your body, the only thing you need to do is decide you want to love your body more than you want to keep believing the lies.
What Intuitive Eating Isn’t
Most of the women I work with want to feel confident and empowered when it comes to food. In today’s blog, I’m clearing up some common misconceptions about what intuitive eating really is—more specifically, what it isn’t—so you can get more clarity around how you want to feel about food.
A Story About Short Shorts
There were like 18 things to be grateful for/excited about/proud of in that particular moment in time...not the least of which was that those dimpled thighs had carried me across three states, over dozens of mountain passes, and through hundreds of miles of wilderness.
But, poof! In one painful moment of needless self-judgement, my superhero vanished, washed away by a wave of shame and embarrassment.
It Matters
It matters to everyone that women feel good about food.
Yes, it matters to you even if you’re not a woman, or if you’re a woman who already feels good about food. Here’s why.
We Are Not Meant To Do This Alone
We are not meant to do this alone. We are not designed to face everything by ourselves (despite the overarching messages in our culture that say we should just “pull ourselves up by our bootstraps” already). We simply didn’t evolve as solitary creatures.
You Chose You
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being part of the Eat Hike Love community…and for choosing you.
You Don’t Need It
Your beauty isn’t the result of the products you purchase or put on—your beauty is innate. And your beauty is only one aspect of your miraculous whole.
Now More Than Ever
I love my body now more than ever because it's SO MUCH EASIER to simply accept what is. It's so much easier to be my own best friend. It's so much easier to trust myself. It's so much easier (and way more fun!) to celebrate the things in life I love without constantly battling fear and judgment.
Choose Joy Over Judgment
Comparison is the thief of joy...and this includes comparing yourself to your past self, or to your imagined future self. Today, can you find joy in being with your body now, as-is? Can you find gratitude and wonder for all it does? Can you see it, even for just a few moments, as your biggest ally in life and your fiercest protector?
A Nutritionist Who Gets It
By the time I was 30, I was bitterly, hopelessly exhausted of the struggle with food and my body. So I hiked the PCT, and then I became a nutritionist. I became the kind of nutritionist who gets it.
Just Because
I love my body just because! It’s me, it’s mine. It’s an amazing miracle of existence. And it deserves love regardless of what it can do or how it looks in any outfit. Can you show your body the same unconditional love it shows you? Can you love it just because it’s yours?
I Do Not Agree
If anyone or anything has a problem with your body, that problem belongs to them. Not to you. You get to choose your beliefs about your body. You get to be the gatekeeper when mean thoughts show up. You get to be part of the revolution and choose radical self-love in a society that’s built to keep you small.
Be Your Own BFF
Sometimes people tell me they “motivate” themselves to do better by being really hard on themselves. They say it works. I tried it for years—it never worked for me. The way I see it now, I was in abusive relationship with myself.
Food Freedom is Waiting
No shame, no blame, no resentment, no fear, no anxiety. Just pleasure and satisfaction and trust. That’s beautiful. And that’s healthy. For those of you who struggle with food, know that you are not alone. And know that food freedom is waiting for you.
